Guest invites
Invite people to a conversation.
Encloq emails the invitation automatically. You choose how to share access: a separate key, a full link or a QR code. See the steps for you and your guest.
You’re inviting someone
You’ve been invited
How it works
Encloq automatically emails your guest an invitation link without the access key. You can share the key separately, or share a secure link or QR code that includes it. With the full link or QR code, your guest can ignore the email link. They still create an account or sign in with the invited email address. Encloq never receives the access key.
Invite someone
- 1Choose New conversation. In a conversation where you are an admin, you can also open People in this conversation and choose Add.
- 2Type their email address. Encloq shows Not on Encloq yet — they will be invited. Select it.
- 3Create the conversation and write as usual. Messages and files wait for your guest and arrive when they join.
How your guest joins
With a secure link or QR code, your guest opens what you shared instead of the email link. After they create an account or sign in with the invited address, the conversation opens automatically. No separate key is needed.
Signed in with a different address? Encloq offers to sign out and continue with the invited one, because an invitation belongs to the address it was sent to.
What guests can see
Your guest sees what is sent in this conversation from the moment you invited them, including messages sent before they joined. Earlier messages, your other conversations and your files stay private.
Until your guest joins, the keys of their invitation come from your device, so you could read what is sent to them. Encloq points this out in the conversation. Once they join, that ends.
If a lot is sent before they join, the invitation can fill up. Encloq then tells you that new messages no longer reach it.
Expiry
30days
An invitation is valid for 30 days, and Share access shows the exact date. If your guest has not joined by then, the invitation expires and the invited address is removed from Encloq. The conversation then shows No active invitation; send a new one to invite them again.
Renew, change or revoke
While you wait, the conversation shows Waiting for … to join with your guest’s name. Choose Manage. Only you, as the person who invited them, can change the invitation:
- Renew creates a new access key and secure link. The old ones stop working, and messages sent before the renewal will not be available to your guest. Use it if they lost the key.
- Change email invites a different address instead: enter it and choose Send new invitation.
- Revoke removes your guest’s place. The invitation no longer opens the conversation.
If an invitation will not open
- The access key is missing or does not match
- Ask the person who invited you for the key belonging to this invitation. Encloq does not store it and cannot recover it. If the sender no longer has it, they can renew the invitation and share a new key.
- New access key needed
- The invitation was renewed. Ask the sender for the new access key or secure link; the previous one no longer works.
- Invitation expired
- Ask the sender to create a new invitation. An expired invitation cannot be opened with its old access key.
- Encloq could not be reached
- Check your internet connection and try again. A connection error does not mean that the access key is wrong.
